Who doesn’t love a good, old, classic Rocky Road ice cream? As the name suggests,
my life, especially the past few years in high school, has been a Rocky Road. The life of a
teenager has its ups and downs; whether that may be building and ending relationships with people, failing a test, committing to a college, or getting into fights with family and friends, all of which I experienced within the short span of a few years. It is not necessarily the smoothest route; however, the diverse elements that I experienced along the way gave additional pleasure to the sweet aftertaste. At the end of the day, I am thankful for all the successes as well as adversities that I have faced as they shaped my character into the person I am today.

When eating Rocky Road ice cream, you will taste all the textures and flavors in just
one bite. Much like my personality, a person can tell my many characteristics by spending enough time with me.

The chocolate ice cream itself is the most crucial part of Rocky Road ice cream.
Chocolate has a bold flavor yet it is a common comfort food, similar to the contrast between my appearance and personality. I’m aware that my natural serious resting face combined with my everyday dashing eyeliner comes off intimidating to many people; but once they have more conversations with me and get to know me better, they will soon learn that whenever my friends are going through breakups or family issues, I’d welcome them with open arms and listen to their problems.

In high school, students love to compare test scores and feed on pointless gossip; and
that are just two of the many unhealthy habits amongst the students. I learned about the
overly competitive and toxic nature of my community the hard way, and it was destructive
for my mental health. The realization that life was filled with many obstacles, like the hard
almonds, changed me as a person. I learned that the journey through life is not always easy and pleasant, but rather filled with obstacles, like the almonds.

After facing and experiencing challenges, I became more aware of my surroundings
and people’s emotions. The sweet reward as I discovered a marshmallow in Rocky Road gave me much pleasure. The squishy marshmallows add a chewy texture to the Rocky Road ice cream; it also represents the soft and sensitive side of me. My loved ones in my life know that I always have a soft spot for them in my heart. I am now more empathetic and sensitive towards people’s feelings than ever. Speaking from experience, the social scene can be difficult in my high school, so I made sure to be dependable and healthy for the people around me, like the almonds. People can always rely on me because I am loyal and willing to help with any problems; in addition, I find myself to be always trying to bring out the best in people and encourage them to do what they love.

Every once in a while, I pick up a small tub of Ben&Jerry’s Rocky Road ice cream
from the grocery store after a long day. The unique flavor of Rocky Road never fails to fulfill my cravings; I guess you really are what you eat.
